The J-45™ was first released in 1942. It became widely known as “The Workhorse” due to its no-nonsense simplicity and understated elegance. It is Gibson’s best-selling acoustic guitar model of all time and one of the most recorded acoustic guitars in history, and it has graced countless recordings and concert stages in the hands of artists across a wide range of genres.
Now, Gibson is proud to introduce the updated J-45 Studio Rosewood. Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, this guitar uses all-solid tonewoods, including a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer-finished Sitka spruce top for wide dynamic range, playing responsiveness, and balanced tone.
The satin nitrocellulose lacquer-finished rosewood back and sides deliver richer bass and sparkling treble overtones compared to traditional mahogany-bodied J-45 models. Its full-depth, round shoulder body ensures rich, deep tone and excellent volume and projection.
Equipped with an Advanced Response neck profile and a satin nitro-finished utile neck, the J-45 Studio Rosewood offers smooth, easy playability. The neck shape is a comfortable middle ground between Gibson’s standard profiles—“just right” in the hand for many players. A rosewood fretboard with 20 standard frets and mother-of-pearl dot inlays adds a classic touch. Its 16” radius helps make fast note runs feel effortless. The headstock features Grover® Rotomatic® tuners and a Graph Tech® TUSQ® nut for tuning stability. The belly-up bridge uses a TUSQ saddle and bridge pins as well.
For plugged-in performance, it includes an L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze under-saddle piezo pickup with a soundhole-mounted volume control, allowing easy plug-and-play with studio-quality tone. Packaged in a modern hardshell case, the J-45 Studio Rosewood is ready to go wherever your music takes you.
