The SG™ Special returns to the classic design that made it relevant, played, and loved—shaping sound across generations and genres of music. Introduced in the early 1960s, the Gibson SG Special was conceived as a model positioned between the entry-level SG Junior and the SG Standard, combining the stripped-down, budget-friendly appeal of the Junior with added versatility and upgraded aesthetics associated with the now-iconic SG Standard. Despite its more pared-down approach, it quickly became associated with some of rock’s most memorable riffs and performances. This early ’60s–style SG Special from Epiphone captures the vibe and sound heard on countless classic rock recordings.
The Epiphone SG Special P-90 from the updated Inspired by Gibson Collection delivers the legendary SG solidbody electric design with a double-cutaway mahogany body and a mahogany neck shaped with a fast-playing 60s SlimTaper™ profile. The neck is topped with a bound rosewood fretboard featuring 22 medium jumbo frets and pearloid dot position marker inlays.
The 60s Kalamazoo headstock is fitted with Epiphone Deluxe tuners with ivory buttons, a Graph Tech™ nut, and an Epiphone logo inlaid in mother-of-pearl. On the opposite end, a compensated wraparound bridge anchors the strings, staying true to the vintage roots of the SG Special while delivering solid intonation and impressive sustain.
The SG Special P-90 is equipped with a pair of Epiphone P-90 PRO™ Soapbar pickups, known for their snarly midrange punch and exceptional dynamic response. Dial back your volume for chiming cleans or crank it up for overdriven tones that can punch through even the densest mixes. Both pickups are wired to individual volume and tone controls, along with a three-way toggle switch for flexible tonal shaping.
The SG Special P-90 ships in a premium gig bag to help keep it protected while traveling.
